The Accelerated Summer Coding Academy is run by Ronak Ramachandran, a young coder with experience in everything from web design to quantum computing. Ronak was introduced to coding at age 4 with Karel the Robot. Since then, he has progressed from Scratch to Python to Java and beyond. He is in the Gold Division of the USA Computing Olympiad and has worked on websites like wwpmt.org. Most importantly, Ronak is a qualified teacher. He is a volunteer tutor for the Center for Math Advancement, a teaching assistant at the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District, and a member of the Future Educators of America.

What is the Accelerated Summer Coding Academy (ASCA)?

ASCA is a fast-paced and rigorous four-week program meant to teach middle school and high school students how to use the Python programming language. The program gives eager kids the leg up they need to succeed as programming becomes an ever more essential skill in life.

What do I need before joining the Academy?
- A laptop computer you can bring to every lesson
- An email address (Your personal email address is preferred)
- A pencil, a notebook, or any other note-taking tools you find helpful
- A basic understanding of algebra (You should be comfortable using variables)
- A joy for learning!
Who can join?

The academy is mainly geared toward students in middle school and up. If you aren’t old enough, email asca1331@gmail.com, and we might be able to work something out.
When is it?

The Academy will last from July 1st 2019 to July 26th 2019.
How hard will it be?

Learning Python in four weeks is difficult, so don’t be discouraged if you find this course challenging. The instruction is personalized so you will be able to get extra help anytime you need it.
How are the lessons structured?

There will be a total of 6 lessons over 3 weeks for each student, followed by a Final Project Fair. Every week, you will attend two lessons, each an hour long. Lessons will be one-on-one for the first four lessons. For the last two lessons, you will be paired up with another student to practice ‘Pair Programming,’ a common programming collaboration strategy. If you miss a lesson (due to sickness, family emergency, etc.), or if you need extra help, you may schedule makeup lessons during the week before our Final Project Fair.
Will I have homework?

Every week, there will be 5 small homework sets to be completed before your first lesson in the next week. In other words, you will be assigned 5 homework sets after Lesson 1 due before Lesson 3, then 5 homework sets after Lesson 3 due before Lesson 5, then 5 homework sets after Lesson 5 due before our Final Project Fair.
How much does it cost, and what do I get?

The entire four-week experience costs $295.
This includes 6 in-person tutoring sessions, 15+ homework sets, and numerous carefully organized resources. Unlike purely online courses, students will also gain experience in collaboration and presentation. All students will receive a certificate of completion upon graduation from the Academy.
